13 members of European Parliament have asked the Turkish interior minister Süleyman Soylu about the kidnapping of Gokhan Gunes and the perpatraitors who calls themselves the invisibles.
They mentioned their irritation on the ministers inactive position on the case.
The letter is signed by 13 EP members from Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Cyprus and came out as a result of AvEG-Kon diplomatic work.
Full texts of the letter as follows:
Who are the “invisible”?
Dear Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu,
the day before yesterday, the kidnappers of Gökhan Güneş released him after 6 days. We are very happy that the public outrage over this dark incident has been effective.
The abducted young construction worker made a statement at the Istanbul Human Rights Association on the same day of his release. His account shocked us. He would have been tortured and mistreated during the 6 days. His statements indicate an organized structure with certain logistics, interrogation rooms and torture equipment. He also said that, he has been repeatedly forced to cooperate with the kidnappers, who called themselves the “Invisibles”.
There are currently fears among the Turkish public that such methods of enforced disappearances, which occurred in the 1990s, could become established again.
Dear Minister of the Interior,
We are not aware of any statement from you about this dark criminal act. Yet your decisive stance as Minister of the Interior would have been of utmost importance and would certainly have sent a clear signal to all secretly operating forces who apparently feel so safe that they dare to kidnap and abuse people in broad daylight!
Therefore, we ask you as the Minister for Internal Security:
What measures do you intend to take to solve the kidnapping case of Gökhan Güneş and to catch the kidnappers?
How do you explain that the Istanbul police did nothing during the 6 days that Mr. Güneş was missing, although the family contacted the police? Are the statements of Mr. Güneş’s family true, according to which the police refused to examine the evidence presented by the family?
The press reports on the abduction case of Mr. Güneş stated that the police consoled Mr. Güneş’s family with assumptions that the anti-terrorist units (TEM) would probably interrogate him and release him soon. Are these reports true? Will you investigate these allegations?
Are you aware of a structure operating under the code name “the invisibles“?
Dear Minister of the Interior,
We must express our irritation that just at a time when Turkey is striving for good relations with the EU, people can simply disappear in your country and the relevant state agencies apparently do nothing serious to get to the bottom of the matter!
So we, as Members of the European Parliament, call on you to take up the case immediately. Please work to ensure that the case of Mr Güneş’s abduction is fully investigated and that those responsible are brought to justice.
Yours sincerely
