Take action for political prisoners on 18 March!
In this process in which imperialist states compete to redistribute the world’s natural resources, trillions are spent on weapons production and colonial wars as occupations continue. Fascist and racist forces are brought to power and attacks against those who fight for a world without exploitation, for a world free from gender oppression are also increasing and prisons are filled with freedom fighters.
Bourgeois, fascist and reactionary states are increasingly taking away democratic rights and freedoms, increasing prison capacities with huge budgets to silence resisting voices. Human rights are neglected, and international human rights conventions are violated. They try to surrender political prisoners and discourage them from the struggle for freedom by imposing heavy penalties on them, imposing isolation, preventing their release, torturing them to death and eliminating the rights of prisoners gained through struggle.
France does not release the Lebanese revolutionary Georges Abdallah, who has been imprisoned since 1984, despite court decisions. The number of revolutionary, antifascist and Kurdish political prisoners in Germany is increasing. The USA is activating the torture centre Guantanamo and black revolutionary Mumia Abu Jamal, held in US prisons since 1981, is still not released. Zionist Israel continues its genocidal attacks in prisons and massacres Palestinian prisoners by torture. Some European countries such as Germany support the genocide by banning the Palestinian Prisoners Solidarity Network Samidoun. Iran accelerates executions to intimidate social opposition. In India, the Philippines, Peru and many other countries the number of prisoners is increasing, and sick prisoners are not being treated.
Internationalist revolutionary Ecevit Piroğlu is being held as a political hostage in Greece. In Turkey, the fascist state, which constantly increases the capacity of isolation prisons, has overfilled the prisons with 392 thousand people, tens of thousands of them are political prisoners. Around 2 thousand sick prisoners are prevented from treatment.
Turkey does not release political prisoners who have completed their execution, and tries to break their will with physical violence, strip searches, sexual violence, visitor and communication bans.
The Turkish state tries to break solidarity with political prisoners by arresting and imprisoning organisations and individuals in solidarity with them. Political prisoners, no matter which country they are in, no matter what the prison conditions are like, continue to resist and struggle for humanity to live equally and freely.
As TSP, we salute the International Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners on 18 March, which is also the anniversary of the Paris Commune of 1871. We emphasise that we will continue to raise solidarity with political prisoners, to carry their struggle and voice outside and to fight for their freedom. We call on all revolutionary, progressive, antifascist forces to embrace political prisoners.
Freedom for Political Prisoners!
